NFL preseason roundup: Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes throws TD pass

Patrick Mahomes threw for a touchdown on the Chiefs' first possession and safety Justin Reid kicked an extra point in Kansas City's 19-14 loss to the host Chicago Bears on Saturday in the preseason opener for both teams.

Trevor Siemian threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter for the Bears.

Siemian completed 7 of 13 passes for 89 yards in relief of Justin Fields, who went 4 of 7 for 48 yards while running the new offense under coordinator Luke Getsy.

Panthers 23, Commanders 21

Sam Darnold threw for a touchdown and fellow quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 4-of-7 passes for 45 yards as visiting Carolina bolted out to a 20-6 lead before holding off Washington.

Bills 27, Colts 24

Tyler Bass' 46-yard field goal as time expired lifted host Buffalo to a victory over Indianapolis. Bills backup quarterbacks Matt Barkley and Case Keenum combined for 310 passing yards, but they threw no touchdown passes and were intercepted three times. New Colts quarterback Matt Ryan completed 6 of 10 passes for 58 yards.

Steelers 32, Seahawks 25

Kenny Pickett threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Vaughns with three seconds remaining, breaking a tie and lifting host Pittsburgh past Seattle. Pickett tossed two TD passes while the Steelers' other two quarterbacks, Mason Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky, threw one scoring pass apiece. Seahawks QB Drew Lock went 11 of 15 for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

Dolphins 26, Buccaneers 24

Jason Sanders' fourth field goal of the game, a 53-yarder with 6:53 to go, gave visiting Miami the lead, and the Dolphins held on for the win over Tampa Bay. With quarterback Tua Tagovailoa sitting out for the Dolphins, Skylar Thompson connected on 20 of 28 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown. QB Tom Brady is away from Buccaneers, and his backups, Kyle Trask (258 passing yards, one interception) and Blaine Gabbert (56 passing yards) each threw a TD pass.

Texans 17, Saints 13

Jeff Driskel's 6-yard touchdown pass to Jaleel Johnson with 25 seconds remaining gave host Houston a win over New Orleans. Driskel finished 16 of 26 for 165 yards with two TD passes and three interceptions. The Saints' Andy Dalton completed all five of his passes for 51 yards and a score.
