2019 was a solid first step in the journey of rookie right tackle Tytus Howard.

But 2020 holds bigger goals and aspirations for last year's first round pick.

Howard spoke at length in an interview with Texans TV, and he said the virtual offseason has been going well, and he's much farther ahead now compared to his rookie offseason.

"I wish what I know now, I knew then," Howard said. "When you know more and you study more, it just makes you play faster and play better. That's my goal for this year: to study more and know more."

To that end, he's leaned on veteran Texans offensive linemen like Laremy Tunsil, Nick Martin, Zach Fulton and Greg Mancz.

"I've just been tuning into how they see football so I can see it through their view and also play the way I play," Howard said.

After settling in as the team's right tackle in Week 3 at Los Angeles, a knee injury in Week 6 at Kansas City caused him to miss the next two games. He returned for the London win against the Jaguars, and started the next two games after that. His 2019 was ended, though, after the Week 12 victory against the Colts in Houston. Howard said his return from injury is progressing nicely.

"I'm feeling pretty good," Howard said. "I'm still in the rehab process. I'm excited to be ready for this season. I'm just I'm just ready to get back on the field, and do what I can do to help my team win football games."

Howard and the Texans open the regular season September 10 at Kansas City on Thursday Night Football.
