U.S. House of Represnetatives overwhelmingly rejects Goldstone Report

Houston News.Net
Wednesday 4th November, 2009 (ANI)

The U.S. House of Representatives has overwhelmingly voted in favour of a resolution condemning the Goldstone Report, which found that Israel and Hamas had committed war crimes in Gaza. The resolution, passed by 334 to 36 votes, calls on the president and secretary of state to oppose unequivocally any endorsement or further consideration of the report.
A non-binding resolution condemning the Goldstone Report, which accuses Israel and Hamas of committing war crimes in Gaza, has been passed in the US House of Representatives with an overwhelming majority.

344 representatives voted in favour of the resolution asking the Obama administration to oppose the Goldstone Report, while 36 voted against it.

”The 344 supporters have apparently not read the report,” Human Rights Watch senior researcher Fred Abrahams said Wednesday. ”The 574-page document records violations of the laws of war by Israel, Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups, and concludes that all sides committed war crimes and possible crimes against humanity.”

Wednesday's voting came in the light of judge Richard Goldstone criticizing the resolution, which terms the fact-finding report into the Israeli army's Operation Cast Lead as "irredeemably biased and unworthy of further consideration or legitimacy."

The bill, introduced by Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Howard Berman (D-CA), the ranking member and chairman, respectively, of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, calls on President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton "to oppose unequivocally any endorsement or further consideration of the report."

Ros-Lehtinen and Berman were in Jerusalem a day earlier attending a conference on reinforcing U.S.-Israeli ties.

Ahead of a UN General Assembly debate on the report on Wednesday, European nations have engaged in a tug of war with Arab states on a resolution.

While Arab nations are pushing a resolution endorsing the Goldstone Report, the EU countries are lobbying for amendment in the existing resolution and sending the matter back to Geneva, the Jerusalem Post reports.

In an attempt to scuttle efforts by Arab states to bring the matter to the Security Council, and from there to the International Criminal Court, EU states were emphasizing accountability for crimes against humanity and calling on Israelis and Palestinians to launch investigations into war crimes.

Austrian Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting, who is president of the Security Council this month, signalled that the Goldstone Report could be discussed in the council before the month's end.

"It seems, evidently, highly likely to me that delegations and perhaps also the High Commissioner [for Refugees] or her designate will refer to this and other regional issues that involve the protection of civilians," he told reporters in New York.

Of the 36 votes against Wednesday's resolution, only three came from Republicans. One of the dissenters, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), spoke out agaist the resolution. "This is a mistake. The stance of this Congress will erode U.S. credibility in the post-Obama world, and it will tarnish our commitment to the principle that all nations must be held to the same standards," he said.

"We stand for the values of democracy, truth and justice. There is no reason for Congress, Israel or any other party to fear an honest judge," he added. "Richard Goldstone is such a judge, and his report should be studied, not dismissed."

Resolution condemning Goldstone Report indicting Israel of war crimes passed in US House

The 36 wise men who voted no are truthful, honest and not bribees It seems to be these 36 law makers are not linked to any lobbyist. I congratulate them for acting truthfully and with clean heart. Moreover the 334 guys are the same who usually vote against any peace settlements in the Middle East due to their close connections to lobbyists.

Sad day for Science

Informed reports are based on facts. Surely? Facts are the elements of truth that have saved us from a earth that is flat and delivered us modern technologies that we arelooking at to read these thoughts.. Is it true that people voted on a document that they had not even read? Why comment of something you know nothing about?

This vote will build angry minds and hearts against jews. If they do not learn from previous persecutions they will be persecuted again.

If the world people's eyes are as bright as snow.

(R) 2012 DAN QUAYLE Presidential Foreign Policy & Affairs / Israeli-Palestinian policy reform : Using a rock or egg to defend against Israeli tanks and F-16 attacks, if the world people’s eyes are as bright as snow, how you compare with today’s Israeli occuption in West Bank and Gaza strip to yesterday’s Nazi occupation to Jews ? Most of the US Congress & Senate are being a ballot-slave kowtowing, bow before American Jews' votes.

Israel is the USA

No surprise here as all omnipotent USA opinion is we only do right and never any wrongs. Also we will hold the World accountable for its crimes! But the World cannot hold America accountable as only we are capable of judging ourselves-Since we do no wrong what’s there to judge? Amazing thought process that can never be defended.

And there are nerds believing in these morons

Now the congressmen show their color, yet there are still lots of ignorant foreigners believing in their sweet talk, walk their line, hoping to get true help from these corrupted, elected officials.
